We won rebounding 56-39, with 21 offensive rebounds to their 15.
We won assists 16-11.
We won FG % 38.2 to 29.4. They won 3 point shooting % 37 to 31.6.
Fran had a terrific game with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Interesting scoring distribution. 7 players scored for us (the starters plus Belibi and Betts), and no one who scored had fewer than 7 points. Notably, Talana and Agnes had 10 and 8 points respectively.
Oregon had 6 players scored but Hosendove and Kyei had 4 and 2 points respectively, so much less balanced scoring from them. Paopao, Rogers, Grey and Van Slooten scored the bulk of the points (with 28, Paopao had nearly 45% of Oregon’s 65 points).

These early tournament games always have a little bit of trying to cruise and conserve energy to them. We did not exactly cruise but aside from one Oregon run where they got within I think it was 5, maybe 6 in the second half, we had a reasonably comfortable lead. Their press did not bother us. for all the ragging Lepolo gets, her ability to deal with pressure really helps the team. She had a good game. Emma-Nnopu had a good game. They both scored enough to make people guard them. Belibi had a good game. Brink was Brink. Jones seemed a bit off in her shots and shot selection but her rebounding and assists were first rate. Jump did a good job overall and seems to be shooting well. Bench played a decent amount. I've seen a lot of tournament games, as I'm sure most on here have, and this sort of game is pretty typical. Opponents are fighting for the NCAAs or are playing their last game of the season perhaps. Nothing is easy. Oregon's guards showed well, but they should have been better all season. They are more capable than they showed for the season.

I mean, you're not wrong. The shooting was bad. But basketball is a team sport. If some team members are contributing more in terms of scoring and others are contributing more in terms of rebounding and distributing the ball, you still often end up with a balanced team effort, and a win. Haley wasn't scoring so she found other ways to contribute. That's what All-Americans do.

I mean, you're not wrong. The shooting was bad. But basketball is a team sport. If some team members are contributing more in terms of scoring and others are contributing more in terms of rebounding and distributing the ball, you still often end up with a balanced team effort, and a win. Haley wasn't scoring so she found other ways to contribute. That's what All-Americans do.

Haley found other ways to help her team win despite her abysmal shooting. It was by no means an All American performance from her. No way. She couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean with her shooting today. I’m confident she’ll respond and be better offensively tomorrow.
This will be UCLAs third game in three days. Rebounding is going to be the key. They dominated the boards today vs Arizona and beat us on the boards on senior night.

Kudos to Fran. Her best game of the season; rebounding, scoring, and D. Her play today reinforced our belief inour post depth and she deserved the extensive PT today.
Brink was her dominant self and showed why I think she should have been POY. She sat with 3 fouls and Oregon closed to 6. Tara brings her back in and we go back up by 13. She takes over the game. Paopao had a great game but she only kept the ducks somewhat in the game, she couldn't turn the game around like Cam did.
Haley had some nice assists and her usual strong rebounding game, but her shooting was off. Most of all, her decision-making was often poor, in her turnovers, and when and how she took shots. Tara made a statement late when Paopao was going off and threatening to give us trouble down the stretch. Tara sat Haley and put in AEN - a coment on Haley's D.
There's a poster who thinks Lepolo and Emma-Nnopu are a disaster. That was proven wrong today as the combo helped build our 1st Q lead and was good at the end. Poster also lobbies for Nivar over Lepolo and the actual performance was evident. Lepolo had 10 pts., 5 assists, no turnovers and hit clutch FTs late.
Jump played well and got us off to a good start. she also hit key FTs.
Disappointed in Nivar and Bosgana. Elena missed a wide open three and didn't look good on D in her highly limited minutes (2). Not fair to be critical in such short PT, but we need our bench players coming in and providing instant help. Demetre and Kiki were also non-contributors. Betts played good in her 8 minutes. Ashten only got a couple of minutes but played good D in that short stint.
Overall, our shooting needs to be better. We missed a lot of chippies, mid range shots, and open threes. FT shooting was ok (75%) and real good at the end, but would liek to see 80-90% as we get further into tournaments. Rebounding was terrific. Oregon has size but we were much better. Points in the paint were important and turnovers were reasonable (10 total) with not too many dumb pass turnovers.
Officiating was horse manure. The two men refs should be consigned to do games in Siberia. There were so many bad calls and non-calls, I wouldn't know where to start in describing them. I will say that thre fouls on Brink were bogus. One should have been on Demtre not Cam. Another was Brink heading starting to head down court after a duck miss and Stanford D rebound and the duck player falls into Cam. Another one was as pointed out by Tony and alum81 a foul on duck players mauling her. . I did write a letter to the commish at the P12 this week complaining about the poor officiating. I'm sure it just goes into the circualr file and the bad officiating will continue. It's ridiculous. I hope that it shows up obvious in non-Stanford games and there is more feedback to the conference.

No one has mentioned that we had only 10 turnovers today. That is well below our average and helps a lot. We are really going to need to keep those down tomorrow, too, but I will save comments about tomorrow for the other thread.
I was pleased with our performance today, generally. The team came out with energy. It did not seem as if they had a hangover after the Utah loss. They did not seem to take Oregon lightly. The offense looked much better than it has in some time.
The one dark cloud was letting PaoPao heat up in the second half. Utah has several PaoPaos and we need to do a better job of limiting sharpshooters on the perimeter.

No one has mentioned that we had only 10 turnovers today. That is well below our average and helps a lot. We are really going to need to keep those down tomorrow, too, but I will save comments about tomorrow for the other thread.
I was pleased with our performance today, generally. The team came out with energy. It did not seem as if they had a hangover after the Utah loss. They did not seem to take Oregon lightly. The offense looked much better than it has in some time.
The one dark cloud was letting PaoPao heat up in the second half. Utah has several PaoPaos and we need to do a better job of limiting sharpshooters on the perimeter.

A TV announcer said while Oregon has a NET ranking of 19, they are in danger of not making the NCAA tournament. At the time she said Oregon needs to beat Stanford or play a close game to make sure of getting into the NCAA tournament. That makes no sense to me. Doesn't the NET ranking mean something to the selection committee?

2. Oregon wound up with 15 offensive rebounds, which means we captured 70% (35/50) rebounds under the Oregon basket.
3. Stanford scored 76 points, and that's with Haley Jones struggling with her shooting (3/15). Lepolo and Emma-Nnopu went a very respectable 5/12 overall (4/9 from 3) for 18 points combined.
4 .In 12 combined minutes, Bosgana and Demetre scored 0 points.
5. Maybe our three time national title winning coach actually knows a thing or two, and I think she is, in fact, serious about winning a title.
I almost wonder if the team's performance was deliberately trolling the haters.
