Well, Shaq did what he had to do as well, and won four NBA championships (3x MVP) despite never playing on a team with eight future Hall of Famers as teammates. Bottom line, Russell and Shaq were both bad free throw shooters who didn't improve. Unfair to label Shaq as a bad teammate based on his free throw shooting.

One of the NBA's first real stars, Paul Arizin, shot free throws underhanded.  He shot 81% from the free throw line, playing mostly in the 1950s, all for the Warriors.
