Nolan Ryan had a fair number of opening day starts, but he was also the 2nd and 3rd best options on a lot of those staffs. Frank Tanana handled OD's when they were both on the Angels (Nolan had three of them). Seaver with the Mets. He had three for the Astros but otherwise JR Richard and Niekro had the opening day. And on the Texas Rangers, Ryan's three starts were bookended by Hough and Lefferts.
So nine total opening day starts for Nolan Ryan in a 27 year career. Walter Johnson had 14, 10 consecutive.
As for the Giants, Juan Marichal had 10 OD starts, but broken up by Perry and Sanford once each.
Mays had 19 consecutive CF starts, broken up by his year in Korean War. Mel Ott, 18 consecutive OD starts, but two of them were in CF and 3B instead of RF. Crawford, 10 SS starts. McCovey, 13 1B starts (Belt has 10, so did Bill Terry, Snow had 9, Will Clark had 8). Buster, 10 starts at C. Westrum had 7. Robby T. and Doyle had 11 starts each at 2B. Matt Williams and Devlin had 8 starts each at 3B. Barry Bonds, 14 starts in LF.
Most unnatural? Lemaster started 7 opening days. Yikes.

Jack Morris hold the record for the most consecutive opening days starts (14, from 1980-1993). Eleven were with Detroit, one with Minnesota and two with the Blue Jays.

Met Jack Morris at the Oakland Airport after the 1987 All star game. Red eye back to Chicago, plane was delayed, which was nice after the extra inning game. I was chatting with his wife at the gate, and after a few minutes of silence, he asked me if I was a reporter. After I told him no, he joined the conversation. Seemed to be a pretty good guy, pretty intense, too.
Free Phogge!!!! And no, crimson doesn't refer to the Tide.

You could have told him that like Charles Bronson in The Magnificent Seven you were an eccentric millionaire.

Wish I had thought of that. . . .Another odd memory of the game, was meeting Matt Nokes and his wife at a pregame party. His wife apparently wanted to catch some California sun, and absolutely french fried herself. So bad, I could feel her pain. . . .

Ten umps have been enshrined in Cooperstown.
Two played in the majors. Who?
What HOF ump won a Silver Star and was awarded a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge?

What HOF ump won a Silver Star and was awarded a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge?
Jocko Conlon was an outfielder in the Bigs and Hank O'Day was a player, manager, scout and ump in MLB. they are two of the ten umps in the HOF.
Nestor Chylak was wounded in the Bulge.
Bobbbbbbbb... what kind of chest protection did Chylak wear?
Chylak served in the 424th Infantry Regiment, the only one of the three 106th Division regs not captured by the Germans in the first days of their Ardennes attack. The 424 is credited with delaying the Germans thus helping stymie the Winter Offensive giving the American counter attack time to regroup. Ironically Chylak suffered a serious shrapnel wound to his eyes which he overcame to become a HOF umpire.

A hand-held chest protector outside his shirt/jacket. The AL used that style of protector until MLB implemented a policy requiring all umps to wear their chest protector inside their shirt (as the NL did all along).
